Upcoming Events
Saturday, the 1st of June, 2024 -The Tapestries Collection
This is an ambitious project to create a series of freestyle embroidered panels, telling stories about the Methodist movement. They will eventually be displayed at the Weardale Museum in Ireshopeburn, County Durham, but for 1 day only they are being displayed Etherley Methodist Church.
Over 50 embroiders from all over the country are involved in creating these beautiful works of art. Each has chosen the stitches, colours and textures they feel appropriate to the design, which means that every panel has its own unique character. These exquisitely embroidered panels give a wonderful insight into the social history of the local communities and generations of ordinary men and women who lived, worked and worshiped in this area and beyond.
The exhibition will take place on Saturday 1st of June 2024 from 11.00am to 4.00pm.
Entrance is free, and free car parking is also available in a special car park, which will be clearly signposted.
Food will be served throughout the time the exhibition is open.
Please contact Marie on 01388 526692 if you require any additional information on this unique day.

As a celebration for the Coronation, the knitters at Etherley were very busy. The Church was decorated with a golden carriage and 2 horses, the door had the Cipher of the new King, and other associated embellishments were put around the Church entrance.
The Chapel and Schoolroom are ideal venues to hire for Conferences, Meetings etc, with adaptable space, modern kitchen facilities and audio and visual equipment.
Groups currently using these facilities are Tai Chi (every Thursday morning) which is strongly recommended by medical experts to assist health & well-being, a Cinema Club (usually 2nd Wednesday evening in each month) and the Wear Valley Photography Club (usually 2nd & 4th Monday evenings in each month). New members are always welcome at these events.
